After the flop of Assassin's Creed: Unity, Ubisoft still has the same graphics engine, while it was online in the series since 2010 with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (with the exception of Assassin's Creed: Rogue), is absent.
Plot
England, 1868. The story follows the story of Jacob and Evie Frye on their path within organized crime in Victorian London and their struggle against established power, controlled by the Templars.
The twins, at the beginning, at the request of their dear family friend to Assassin George Westhouse, kill the industrialist capitalist Rupert Ferris and the scientist David Brewster. During the clash with the latter, Evie discovers that the Templars have found another fruit of Eden that Miss Lucy Thorne intends to obtain. The other fruit, which Brewster was examining before Evie arrived, exploded. Once the goals are over, the two Assassins report to George and flee to London (although the latter does not approve of the strong presence of Templars in the city) to wrest the power from the Grand Master of the Templars, Crawford Starrick. Once in the metropolis, they meet Henry Green, the Indian-born assassin, director of the London Assassins branch. Jacob immediately decides to create a gang called "Rooks" to compete with the Starrick Blighters, then snatching the Whitechapel district from their hands.
During the clash with Whitechapel's Blighters boss, Kaylock, Jacob steals a broken sash-drive prototype that Green has Alexander Graham Bell, the famous inventor, repaired, which, in a short time, makes an improved version of it, to be inserted into the wrist-band of the hidden blade. Evie will use it soon after to help Bell with the creation of a new company of phonographs, able to emit the human voice; Evie suggests the right name for these devices: telephone.
Thanks to Green, Jacob learns of a drug circulating in Lambeth, called "Elixir Starrick's Elixir". The Assassin pursues a drug dealer and then finds out that the drug comes from a warehouse located in the port area. Once there, he meets Charles Darwin, also intent on stopping the elixir circle. Destroyed the warehouse, Jacob interrogates the researcher Richard Owen to find out who the drug maker seems to come from a hospital. In a short time, Jacob arrives at the hospital to kill the drug-producing Templar: John Elliotson, a surgeon who performs disturbing experiments on patients. Jacob kills the doctor, who, on the verge of death, continues to affirm that he was doing good, because "by now the times have changed" and Jacob is "only a child who still believes he can fix the world by the sword".
Subsequently, the first conflicts between the Fryys begin: Evie accuses her brother of giving too little importance to the Brotherhood of the Assassins, while Jacob does not bear that his sister is excessively obsessed with following in the footsteps of her father and teases her ironically about the relationship she has with Henry Green. The two roads then begin to divide: Evie finds the key to the crypt at St. Paul's Cathedral, but is torn by Lucy Thorne after a violent clash; Jacob, on the other hand, meets Pearl Attaway, an apparent ally and business partner since his London transport company is Starrick's biggest rival, but later turns out to be an enemy, as Templar is actually Starrick's cousin. The Assassin, therefore, is forced to kill her; here, Crawford's anger breaks out, decided more than ever to take revenge.
Evie, on the other hand, goes to the Tower of London and kills Lucy Thorne; the occultist, on the verge of death, mentions extraordinary and unbelievable powers that the Shroud, the second Fruit of Eden, may have, but has no intention of telling the Assassin what it really is. Jacob, however, is determined to hit Starrick's finances, discovering that his banker, Mr. Twopenny, and Governor of the Bank of England, carries out robberies in his own bank to get rich at the expense of the poor. Jacob kills him just during a robbery at the headquarters.
Thanks to the help of Maharaja Duleep Singh, Evie and Henry discover that the Shroud is located in Buckingham Palace within a script and that the restoration projects that highlight it within the same building, but the area is forbidden and Evie can not proceed alone.
Meanwhile, thanks to his informants, Jacob discovers that Starrick has a man in his prime minister in Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. Thanks to his wife to wear, the Assassin discovers that the man he seeks is the Duke of Cardigan; then he goes to the Parliament building and the murderer.
After conquering part of the London territory, he is contacted by Maxwell Roth, a brilliant criminal mind who, while serving Starrick, has a strong desire to kill him; then ask the murderer to cooperate. The two become effective allies, although Roth most likely tries more than just admiration for Jacob. However, he will find himself forced to kill Maxwell when he is left to explode a Starrick workshop in which he is also a child.
Following an invitation from Roth, Jacob goes to the Alhambra theater and kills the minecat who wanted to "keep the world in its state of divine madness".
Returning to the den on the train, Evie and Jacob have a bad fight, because the first is the fact of having remedied the disasters of his brother, while he was told by his sister who continues to quote and affirm the theories of his father; Henry Green forever, Henry Green is Buckingham Palace's best film, and Starrick intends to steal the Fruit of Eden, taking advantage of the opportunity. The Frye twins have to work together for the last time so that this does not happen.
After stealing the invitations and carriage of the Gladstone signs, Jacob also procures a royal guard uniform to the Abberline inspector, so that he hides the weapons on the roof of Buckingham, as they are forbidden inside the building. During the dance, Evie steals the projects in the White Room, but Starrick manages to steal the key from the crypt, accessing it. Recovered the weapons, the twins join him and after a hard battle, which will also participate in Green, they can kill the Grand Master and free London from the control of the Templars. Jacob and Evie clarify themselves and become Henry Green's wife. The three Assassins are named Knights by Queen Victoria in person and promise to protect England, refusing, however, to collaborate for the Empire since this is against the spirit of freedom of the Assassins.
