The game can be experienced both in the third and in the first person. The game map can also be explored either on foot or in the saddle of any domesticable creature. Players are able to use both rudimentary weapons such as lances, hatchets and picks (can be built with objects that collect on the island like wood and stones) very useful at the beginning of the game, both firearms, as well as the possibility to build camps and bases for defend yourself from animals. The game is available both in single-player mode and in multiplayer mode, the latter mode allows players to connect with other players and form alliances. Also available CO-OP mode for two players exclusively for XBOX ONE and PS4.
The development of the game began in October 2014. The development team conducted extensive research in the field of biology and palaeontology, in order to give dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures and also to the environment in general a more realistic aspect possible.

In Ark: Survival Evolved to survive, players must establish a base that will be built with materials found on the island like wood or rocks; the camp can also be equipped with a fireplace, and the base that will be created can also be used as a storage room for weapons, resources or acting as a stable for mounts; Additional activities, such as taming and keeping dinosaurs or other mounts, typically require more resources. The map of the game, called "The Island", includes an area of about 48 square kilometers, of which about 36 square kilometers of land and 12 square kilometers of ocean.
To build a base, players must earn the various required components, which are unlocked by leveling up. Once unlocked these components are created using the raw materials indicated in the inventory, and then positioned anywhere on the map. However, these structures are not indestructible and can be destroyed by players or hostile creatures; the structural integrity of the building is compromised especially when the columns or foundations are damaged or destroyed. The construction of weapons and other tools takes place in the same way, and as you level up you can open new objects moving from primitive tools to weapons and accessories increasingly more technological, such as guns or machine guns. If a player is injured or gets injured his health bar drops and to recharge it you need to eat some food or use special items for faster life recovery.
Within the game there are as many as sixty types of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. Some of these species can be tamed by a procedure called "taming" which involves stunning the animal that you chose to tame, usually using a slingshot to drop it into a comatose or unconscious state, and then feed it with special berries called "narcoberry" and with meat if it is a carnivore or berry if it is an herbivore. When the "taming" bar is complete the animal will wake up from its comatose state and obey the player. Once tamed it is possible to give a name to your pet or give it to remain still, to attack or to follow you. The bigger creatures can also be ridden, acquiring their skills and their statistics, such as fast running, underwater movement and flight, as well as of course health, defense and resistance points. However, when you are riding a beast, you can not use weapons (except for some eceptions), or other objects and you can only rely on the strength of the animal. [8] Such creatures can also be used to transport resources or allies; they can also be placed on guard at their base or sent into battle against enemies; for example, a herd of Utahraptor can be positioned to guard their base camp, or a group of Triceratops can be used to attack an enemy base. However, domesticated creatures can be killed by other creatures or hostile humans, and once these creatures die they will not be able to come back to life and the resources they carry will disappear. In addition to domesticable creatures the game offers a vast ecosystem saturated with prehistoric beasts, such as the dodo, a saber-toothed tiger and the woolly mammoth, as well as some giant prehistoric insects such as the Meganeura and the Titanomyrma. Each creature in the game has its own ecosystem and hierarchy in the food chain.
Development
Preliminary operations for the development of Ark: Survival Evolved began in October 2014. The Wildcard Studio, which includes the Seattle-based production team, has co-opted with developers based in Egypt at Instinct Games, to facilitate the development of the game.
The game production team has added various features; these features had to make the game more than just survival, which allows the player to explore the island and defeat bosses to discover new secret places. As stated by the same creative director Jesse Rapczak: the producers preferred to direct the game to another goal; while in the classic survival the aim of the game is to get to the end, in Ark: Survival Evolved the programmers wanted to "provide greater depth and not finalize the game to the simple completion of the plot ... but also have a place to explore in full" .
As stated by Rapczak, the game, powered by Unreal Engine 4, contains "tens of thousands" of artificial intelligence of entities, used to animate all the various creatures of the game. The game also offers support for virtual reality, the same Rapczak, after almost three years of experience with the display mounted on the head, said that bring the game on the VR platform, it was already planned from the beginning.
Creatures present in the game
For the creation of the numerous creatures that crowd the "Ark" map of the game, the programmers have done numerous research in the biological and paleontological fields, reading "general public books", and asking for advice and help from friends who have studied in the field of science biological. Obviously during the creation of the creatures, the producers have used the creative license for the game, since the creatures present in the game do not reflect the true nature of their prehistoric counterparts, but it is a changed aspect or more realistically evolved.
